Maharashtra signs MoU with Cleveland Clinic - led Consortium for $1.2 billion Navi Mumbai Medicity
The Government of Maharashtra has signed an MoU with Cleveland Clinic-led consortium to develop a 250-acre medical city in Navi Mumbai
In a move aimed at positioning Maharashtra as a global healthcare and medical innovation hub, the state government on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with US-based Cleveland Clinic, Brookfield Asset Management and Arodhan Health.
The proposed project will attract an estimated investment of USD 1.2 billion (over Rs 10,000 crore) and is expected to generate around 10,000 jobs. Spread across 250 acres, the MediCity will integrate advanced healthcare services, medical education, biomedical research, artificial intelligence, genomics and innovation under a single platform.
The Cleveland Clinic will act as an anchor healthcare partner for the project, bringing its global expertise in clinical care and medical research.The MoU signing ceremony was attended by senior representatives from Cleveland Clinic including CEO Dr Tomislav Mihaljevic, Dr Sameer Kapadia (chairman cardiovascular medicine), Lakshmi Mittal (executive chairman, ArcelorMittal), and Dr. Falcone (President, emerging markets)along with officials from partner organisations.
Beyond patient care, Navi Mumbai MediCity will also focus on education, training and innovation driven healthcare solutions said the officials. The integration of AI based systems and genomics research is expected to place the project among the most advanced healthcare ecosystems globally and will strengthen India's capacity in specialised healthcare services, creating new opportunities for collaboration between global and Indian medical institutions.
